Teodosie became a monk at Brazi and later served as a bishop and metropolitan of Moldavia. He supported monasteries and people living in poverty. When communities suffered oppression, he challenged the ruler and was removed from office and confined. After release, he rebuilt the Brazi hermitage and continued supporting monastic communities. He was killed when raiders demanded the monastery’s possessions.
Visarion became a monk after travelling to holy places, including Jerusalem and Mount Athos. He later travelled through Transylvania, teaching Orthodox faith to communities under pressure to change their religious allegiance. The authorities imprisoned him first at Sibiu and eventually at Kufstein. The official calendar remembers his death in imprisonment and his public witness among the communities he visited.
Sofronie returned to Cioara after his monastic training and founded a hermitage where he taught local people. Imprisoned for his defence of Orthodox faith, he was released and continued travelling among communities in the Apuseni Mountains. He organised assemblies and urged the people to seek an Orthodox bishop. He later withdrew to the monastery at Argeș, where he died in peace.
Oprea was a villager from Săliște who joined delegations asking the Habsburg authorities to protect Orthodox religious freedom. He helped present petitions to Empress Maria Theresa rather than abandoning the communities’ request under pressure. Arrested repeatedly, he was eventually imprisoned at Kufstein and did not return home. The calendar honours his witness alongside the other Transylvanian confessors.
The directory indexes the OCA full-year calendar, including leap-day commemorations, alongside additional researched profiles. Calendar entries include individual saints, groups, icons and feasts. An entry count is not a count of unique saints. Categories are provisional; follow the linked source.
Dates show commemorations in the referenced calendar year. Movable feasts change annually, and local calendars may differ. Additional jurisdictions, original biographies and icon research remain in progress. This collection does not yet claim complete Eastern Orthodox coverage.
Calendar metadata was retrieved through Orthocal’s source repository and the Orthodox Church in America. Source-only calendar records link to their original accounts; researched profiles include individually sourced artwork.
