A life of faith

Aaron was the elder brother of Moses and Miriam, born into the tribe of Levi in Egypt. He spoke for Moses before Pharaoh and shared the work of leading the Hebrews out of slavery. During the wilderness journey he was consecrated as the first high priest, and his descendants continued the priestly ministry. His life also includes failure: like Moses, he did not enter the promised land. The OCA account reads his priesthood in relation to the Epistle to the Hebrews, where the ministry of Aaron helps explain the greater priesthood of Christ. His remembrance includes service without concealing human limitation.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Offer your abilities in support of another person’s calling. Accept correction when needed, and remember that useful service does not require a flawless personal history.
