Saint Acacius the Centurion
Soldier and martyr
Cappadocia and Byzantium
Feast day: May 7

A life of faith
Acacius was a Cappadocian centurion in the Martesian cohort during the reign of Maximian. Brought before the tribune Firmus, he confessed his Christian faith and suffered torture. Another judge sent him in chains to Byzantium, where he was beaten and imprisoned. The received account remembers an angelic healing during his captivity. A later judge ordered his execution by beheading.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Acacius remained faithful while facing repeated demands. Consider how patience can help you answer pressure without abandoning your convictions.
