Saint Adrian of Nicomedia
Official and martyr
Nicomedia · early Christian period
Feast day: August 26

A life of faith
Adrian was an official in Nicomedia who heard imprisoned Christians explain why they remained faithful under punishment. Moved by their testimony, he asked that his name be recorded among the Christians. He was imprisoned and tortured. His wife Natalia, already a Christian, visited and encouraged him. The calendar remembers his new confession and his death alongside the prisoners whose witness had changed his life.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Adrian’s example invites you to take seriously the courage you see in others and allow learning to change your own commitments.
