A life of faith

Aedesius learned Christian faith with his brother Amphian under Pamphilus. The calendar records his forced labour in the copper mines near Alexandria. It describes how he struck a governor who was mistreating Christians. He was subsequently tortured and killed by being thrown into the sea.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Aedesius’s remembrance invites concern for people suffering persecution while calling for careful discernment about how to respond.
