A life of faith

Agapius was one of Bassa’s three sons, together with Theognius and Pistus. Bassa raised the boys in the Christian faith. After their imprisonment, the brothers were tortured before their mother and beheaded. The received life singles out Agapius’s silence during his suffering.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Words are not always easy during distress. Patient presence can make room for someone who does not wish to speak.
