Saint Agathangelus of Rome
Martyr
Rome, Nicomedia and Ancyra
Feast day: January 23

A life of faith
Agathangelus was a Roman who received baptism from Clement of Ancyra during the bishop’s imprisonment. When Clement was transported to Nicomedia, Agathangelus accompanied him. The account remembers their shared Christian confession through repeated imprisonment and suffering. Agathangelus was eventually executed at Ancyra and is commemorated with Clement.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Agathangelus invites reflection on faithful companionship expressed through continued presence in difficult circumstances.
