Saint Alexander the Martyr with Antonina
Soldier and martyr
Cordam
Feast day: June 10

A life of faith
Alexander was a soldier during the persecution under Diocletian. When Antonina was detained in a brothel for refusing pagan worship, he gave her his military clothing so she could escape. Alexander was arrested and punished for helping her. Antonina later returned to confront the prefect Festus, and both suffered martyrdom.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Alexander’s story centers on taking a personal risk to help someone escape exploitation.
