A life of faith

The Church’s traditional life remembers Alexandra as an empress who confessed Christ despite the danger of imperial opposition. Her commemoration is connected with the martyr George, whose witness encouraged her faith. The OCA account also recounts her later exile with her daughter Valeria and their death under Licinius. These traditions portray a woman who chose fidelity to Christ over the protection of status. Alexandra’s example invites reflection on the cost of conscience: privilege does not remove the need to make difficult choices, and courage can mean refusing to let fear determine whom we serve.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Notice a situation where approval or status makes honesty difficult. Ask for steady courage, and choose one truthful, compassionate action that does not depend on the praise of others.
