A life of faith

Ananias is remembered as the disciple who received a difficult call: to approach Saul, a man known for persecuting Christians. The account in Acts describes his obedience, the restoration of Saul’s sight, and Saul’s baptism before he became the Apostle Paul. Orthodox tradition honors Ananias as the first Bishop of Damascus and remembers his preaching at Eleutheropolis. There he refused to abandon Christ and died as a martyr, praying for those who killed him. His witness brings courage and mercy together, showing how faith can make room for a person whose past inspires fear.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Consider a person you have reduced to a past mistake. Pray for that person’s renewal, while asking for wisdom about how to offer kindness with appropriate boundaries.
