Saint Anastasia the Roman Virgin Martyr
Monastic virgin and martyr
Near Rome
Feast day: October 29

A life of faith
Anastasia grew up in a community of Christian women near Rome under the care of Sophia. Brought before the governor Probus, she refused to abandon her faith or the life she had chosen. The calendar remembers her continued confession during torture and her execution. Sophia recovered and buried her body.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Anastasia’s remembrance invites respect for a freely chosen life of faith and prayer.
