Saint Anastasia Șaguna
Righteous Mother
Miskolc and Pest, Hungary
Feast day: December 1

A life of faith
Anastasia raised her children amid family hardship and pressure over their religious upbringing. Her son Anastasiu later became Metropolitan Andrew Șaguna. The official account remembers her teaching the Orthodox faith at home, arranging schooling and seeking help from the authorities. When the household became unsafe, she took her children to her parents’ home. Her commemoration honors a mother’s sustained care and religious instruction. She died in 1836.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Anastasia supported her children’s faith and education through difficult circumstances. Consider how you could help someone learn with patience and encouragement.
