A life of faith

Anicetus was a captain in the imperial army. During Diocletian’s persecution he refused the demand to sacrifice to pagan gods and endured punishment. His nephew Photius publicly declared that he too was Christian. The calendar remembers their imprisonment and shared martyrdom.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Anicetus’s remembrance invites reflection on maintaining conviction while sharing hardship with family.
