Saint Antim the Iberian
Hieromartyr and Metropolitan
Georgia and Wallachia
Feast day: September 27

A life of faith
Antim was born in Georgia and later served the Church in the Romanian lands. The official calendar describes his work as a printer, teacher and metropolitan. He established a printing school at Snagov and produced worship and teaching books in languages people could understand, including Romanian. He also supported church repairs and founded the monastery in Bucharest that bears his name. His commemoration on September 27 remembers learning put into the service of worship and community.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider how a skill in teaching, language or craft could make something valuable more accessible to others.
