Saint Antonina of Tismana
Venerable Nun
Tismana, Romania
Feast day: December 23

A life of faith
Antonina, born Ilinca, joined Tismana after seeking counsel about monastic life. Her responsibilities remained in the monastery's household and agricultural work, near its animals. Basilica remembers her memorization of the Psalter, continual prayer, and guidance for sisters assigned to work beside her. Her life offers a distinct example of spiritual responsibility carried through ordinary duties rather than prominent office. The Romanian Church's commemoration preserves both her practical service and the instruction she gave within a community that did not always recognize the depth of her prayer.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Give an ordinary duty the attention you would give a prominent responsibility. Antonina's remembered work and prayer ask how care can become steady through daily practice.
