A life of faith

Apollinaris was born in Antioch. The received life describes him as a disciple of Peter who became bishop of Ravenna. He organized a church in a local household, taught there and baptized people. Exile took him to the Balkans, where he continued preaching before returning to Ravenna. The account describes his death after an attack by opponents and the later veneration of his relics in the city.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
