Saint Aquila the Apostle
Apostle & missionary coworker
Pontus, Corinth & Ephesus · 1st century
Feast day: July 14

A life of faith
Aquila and his wife Priscilla left Rome after the expulsion of Jews under Claudius and settled in Corinth. Paul stayed with them and shared their work of making tents. They became close coworkers in the Gospel and accompanied him to Ephesus. There they helped Apollos understand the Christian message more fully. Paul remembered their courage and the community gathered in their household. Aquila’s life shows how work, marriage, hospitality, and teaching can serve one calling. Faithful service can grow from a shared home and from the willingness to help another teacher learn.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Consider how your work or home can support someone else’s growth. Offer hospitality or patient instruction, and leave room for a shared task rather than doing everything alone.
