A life of faith

Argyrios was born in Epanomi and went to Thessaloniki as a young man, where he worked for a tailor. The received account relates that he confronted a man who had abandoned Christianity under pressure and urged him to return. Argyrios was seized and pressed to change his own faith. He refused and was executed in the city’s central market in 1806, aged eighteen. Epanomi remembers him as its local martyr.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

A difficult conversation needs care as well as conviction. Choose calm words, respect another person’s freedom and seek trusted help when a situation becomes unsafe.
