A life of faith

Ariadne was an enslaved Christian woman in Phrygia. When her master held an idolatrous celebration, she refused to participate. The received life describes her beating, imprisonment and flight after her release. Pursued again, she prayed for protection; the account tells of a rock opening to shelter her.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Ariadne’s life raises the question of conscience under pressure. Identify one boundary you can explain clearly and seek trustworthy help when threatened.
