Saint Aristocles of Tamassos
Priest and martyr
Tamassos and Salamis in Cyprus
Feast day: June 23

A life of faith
Aristocles was a priest at Tamassos in Cyprus. During a persecution he took refuge in a cave, but left after hearing that Christians at Salamis were suffering. He set out to encourage them, accompanied by the deacon Demetrian and the teacher Athanasius. The three suffered martyrdom at Salamis.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Aristocles recalls choosing to accompany people in distress rather than leaving them isolated.
