Saint Arsenie of Prislop
Monk and confessor
Prislop, Romania
Feast day: November 28

A life of faith
Arsenie studied theology and painting before entering monastic life. He helped Dumitru Stăniloae prepare the early Romanian Philokalia volumes and later worked to restore Prislop Monastery. Communist authorities repeatedly arrested him and eventually removed him from monastic ministry. He continued his monastic commitments, wrote spiritual instruction, and worked as a church painter. His life joined artistic work, teaching, and endurance under restrictions.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Arsenie’s example invites careful use of your abilities and steady commitment when circumstances limit the work you hoped to do.
