A life of faith

Athanasia lived in Antioch with her husband Andronicus and their children. The deaths of both children brought a profound change to their household. She travelled with her husband to the Holy Land and then Egypt, where she entered a women’s monastery in the Thebaid. The calendar commemorates her monastic life together with that of Andronicus.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Athanasia’s remembrance invites patient attention to the different paths people take while living with grief.
