A life of faith

Athenogenes was a bishop from the region of Sebaste who lived near Pedachthoe with ten disciples. When his disciples were arrested during a persecution, he went to seek them and confronted the governor Philomarchus. He was condemned to death and asked to return to his monastery, where he was beheaded.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Athenogenes recalls going to the aid of people entrusted to one’s care.
