Saint Babylas of Antioch
Bishop and martyr
Antioch
Feast day: September 4

A life of faith
Babylas became bishop of Antioch before the persecution under Decius. He was arrested and publicly led through the city in chains. Three young disciples, Urban, Prilidian and Apollonius, followed him and were also arrested. All four refused to abandon Christianity and suffered martyrdom.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Babylas recalls the shared cost of faith when a community’s teacher and students are persecuted.
