A life of faith

Barlaam lived in a village near Antioch, where he worked the land and preached Christianity. During the persecution under Diocletian he was imprisoned for a long time. He refused to abandon his faith under torture and suffered martyrdom.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Barlaam’s remembrance invites reflection on faith expressed within ordinary work and difficult circumstances.
