A life of faith

Barnabas, originally named Joseph, came from Cyprus and became known among the apostles for encouragement. He sold land to support the early Christian community and stood beside the newly converted Paul when other believers feared him. In Antioch he encouraged the growing Church and brought Paul to help teach there. Their missionary journeys carried the Gospel to new communities. When Paul and Barnabas later disagreed about Mark, Barnabas continued working with Mark in Cyprus. His story makes encouragement concrete through generosity, patient trust, and the willingness to give a coworker another opportunity.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Offer encouragement that includes practical support. Notice someone whose promise others overlook, and help that person take one responsible step toward a task that serves the community.
