Saint Basil of Parium
Bishop and confessor
Parium in Mysia, Asia Minor
Feast day: April 12

A life of faith
Basil served as bishop of Parium in Asia Minor. During the campaign against icons, he refused to agree to their rejection or sign the required declaration. Persecution and displacement followed. The calendar remembers his continued fidelity through hardship and his peaceful death.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Basil invites reflection on keeping a considered commitment when agreement would bring comfort or security.
