Saint Bessarion II of Larissa
Archbishop
Thessaly, Greece
Feast day: September 15

A life of faith
Bessarion was born at Pili in Thessaly and became a disciple of Archbishop Mark of Larissa. When the people of Elassona would not receive him as bishop, he remained to assist his teacher. The calendar describes his care for poor people and patient endurance of opposition before he later became archbishop.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Bessarion continued useful work after rejection. Consider a way to serve that does not depend on receiving the role or recognition you expected.
