Saint Blaise of Sebaste
Bishop and martyr
Sebaste in Armenia
Feast day: February 11

A life of faith
Blaise was bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. During persecution he withdrew to a cave on Mount Argeus, where he was arrested and brought before the governor Agricolaus. The calendar remembers people who accompanied him during his suffering. Blaise refused to abandon his Christian faith and was imprisoned, tortured and killed.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Blaise invites reflection on maintaining conviction while remembering the people who stand beside you.
