Saint Boniface of Tarsus
Servant and martyr
Rome and Tarsus
Feast day: December 19

A life of faith
Boniface was an enslaved servant in Aglaia’s Roman household. The account describes both his serious failings and his generosity toward people in need. Sent east to obtain martyrs’ relics, he reached Tarsus and honored persecuted Christians by kissing their chains and wounds. He publicly confessed Christ and was executed. His companions returned his body to Rome.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
