Saint Callistratus of Carthage
Soldier and martyr
Carthage and the Roman military world
Feast day: September 27

A life of faith
Callistratus was born to Christian parents in Carthage and served in a Roman legion under Persentin. Fellow soldiers heard him praying at night and brought him before the authorities. He refused to sacrifice to idols. The received life recounts his rescue after he was thrown into the sea and the conversion of other soldiers. Callistratus and his companions were later killed in prison.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Set aside a quiet time for prayer. Consider how to hold a conviction without hostility toward others.
