Saint Carpus the Apostle
Apostle and bishop
Troas, Berea and Crete
Feast day: May 26

A life of faith
Carpus was a companion of Paul, who left a cloak, books and parchments with him, as remembered in Second Timothy. He became bishop of Berea and brought people to baptism through his preaching. He also preached in Crete and welcomed Dionysius the Areopagite into his home.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Carpus connects the work of teaching with the ordinary hospitality that sustains a community.
