A life of faith

Carpus served as a bishop and was arrested with the deacon Papylus during persecution. The governor Valerius took their property and had the companions moved from Thyatira to Sardis and Pergamum. The calendar remembers their refusal to abandon Christian faith and their martyrdom.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Carpus’s remembrance invites reflection on convictions that remain when possessions and status are taken away.
