A life of faith

Charitina was an orphan from Amisos in Pontus who entered the household of the Christian Claudianus. He cared for her as a daughter. Her traditional life emphasizes kindness, humility, and diligent study of the teaching of God. She shared her love for Christ with others, which brought her to the attention of the authorities. Before her interrogation she comforted Claudianus, who feared losing her. She then confessed her Christian faith before the judge and endured persecution. The Church remembers both the gentleness of her daily life and the firmness of her public witness.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Reflect on the relationship between gentleness and courage. Offer reassurance to someone who is anxious, without pretending you can control the outcome of a difficult situation.
