A life of faith

Cleopa Ilie learned monastic life at Sihăstria before becoming its abbot and later leading Slatina. Basilica remembers his rebuilding of community life, instruction of pilgrims, and spiritual books. Persecution drove him into periods of forest retreat, where he continued writing. After returning, he spent long hours preaching, hearing confessions, and answering visitors' questions. His commemoration joins learned teaching with sustained personal service.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Explain a difficult idea in words another person can use. Cleopa's remembered teaching combined written work with time spent answering visitors.
