Saint Cleopatra of Edra
Righteous woman
Egypt and Edra in Palestine
Feast day: October 19

A life of faith
Cleopatra witnessed Uar’s martyrdom and recovered his remains, eventually bringing them to Palestine and building a church in his memory. After the sudden death of her son John, the account remembers a dream that brought her consolation. She sold her possessions, distributed the proceeds to poor people and lived near the church in prayer.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Cleopatra’s remembrance brings grief, prayer and care for people in need into the same life.
