A life of faith

Cosmas was a Bulgarian monk at Zograf Monastery on Mount Athos. The received life says he knew Bulgarian and Greek and diligently carried out the work entrusted to him. He served in the monastery church and was ordained a priest. With his abbot’s permission he later moved to a cave west of the monastery for a life of solitude and prayer. The account also remembers visits from other monks.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Carry out an ordinary responsibility carefully, and allow time for quiet prayer.
