Saint Cyprian of Antioch
Bishop and martyr
Antioch and Nicomedia
Feast day: October 2

A life of faith
Cyprian’s traditional life begins with his study and practice of magic. After his attempts against Justina failed, he brought his books to be burned and sought baptism from Bishop Anthimus in repentance. He later served as a bishop. The calendar remembers his trial, torture and martyrdom with Justina near Nicomedia.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Cyprian’s life invites a concrete change of direction when a former pursuit has harmed other people.
