Saint Daniil of Turnu
Venerable Monk
Cozia and Turnu
Feast day: October 5

A life of faith
Daniil was a monk at Cozia who became a priest and spiritual guide. With his disciple Misail, he withdrew to the mountains near the old Roman tower and formed a small monastic community. Their shared official life remembers rock cells, prayer and the building of a wooden church. Daniil guided nearby hermits and later entrusted the community to Misail. The Romanian Church commemorates both on October 5.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Read Daniil’s account with Misail’s and consider how teaching and shared work support a community.
