A life of faith

Daniil entered monastic life near Rădăuți and later lived in a rock cell near Putna. The official calendar remembers his reading of patristic writings, prayer and spiritual guidance for people who visited him. Stephen the Great sought his counsel. Daniil later became abbot at Voroneț and guided its community and nearby hermits. His commemoration on December 18 recalls prayer joined to the patient work of teaching others.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
