Saint David of Wales
Bishop and Monastic Founder
Menevia, Wales
Feast day: March 1

A life of faith
David was a sixth-century priest, missionary and monastic founder in Wales. The OCA life remembers his work establishing churches in several places before he settled at Menevia in southwest Wales. There he founded a monastery shaped by the tradition of the desert fathers. He later became bishop of Menevia, the place now known as Saint David’s. His commemoration on March 1 remembers a life of teaching, church building and monastic service.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
David’s work joined teaching with building places where a community could worship. Consider one practical task that could support the life of your parish or neighborhood.
