Saint David the Restorer
King
Georgia · 11th–12th centuries
Feast day: January 26

A life of faith
David IV became king of Georgia while still young, taking responsibility amid displacement and political disorder. The OCA life remembers his support for Church reform and the return of people who had fled their homes. He founded Gelati monastery and its academy, gathered scholars, and supported Georgian churches beyond his kingdom. He also visited sick people and carried money for almsgiving. His interest in Scripture and learning continued alongside government. The Church remembers his penitential writing as part of his legacy, placing repentance and care for others beside the achievements of a powerful ruler.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
