Saint Dimitrie the New of Basarabov
Monk
Basarabov and Bucharest
Feast day: October 27

A life of faith
Dimitrie came from a poor Christian family in Basarabov and worked tending the village cattle. He later entered monastic life near the Lom River and lived in prayer and solitude. The calendar does not establish a precise lifetime beyond a broad medieval period. His relics eventually came to Bucharest, where he is honoured at the Patriarchal Cathedral.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Dimitrie’s example invites faithfulness in ordinary work and a regular life of prayer.
