A life of faith

Dometius was Persian by birth. After learning about Christianity from a man named Uar, he entered a monastery at Nisibis, received baptism and became a monk. He later joined the monastery of Sergius and Bacchus and was ordained a deacon. Seeking solitude, he withdrew to a mountain cave. The received life remembers people coming to him for help and instruction. During Julian’s reign, soldiers found Dometius praying with two disciples and killed the three men by stoning.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
