A life of faith

Dovmont was a Lithuanian prince who came to Pskov during political conflict in 1265. He was baptized with the name Timothy and was chosen to govern the city the following year. The received life remembers his mercy toward poor people and his protection of travelers and pilgrims. He also strengthened the city’s defenses and established churches. He died in 1299, and the people of Pskov began honoring his memory.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
