A life of faith

Eleutherius was raised in Rome by his Christian mother Anthia after his father’s death. She entrusted his education to teachers of Scripture. He became a deacon, priest and bishop, and preached in Illyria around Avlon. During persecution he continued his Christian ministry and confession. The account also recalls soldiers receiving baptism before Eleutherius was killed.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Eleutherius connects learning with service to others. Consider how something you have studied can become useful care or guidance for another person.
