A life of faith

Ephraim was born as Evangelos in Ampelochori near Thebes in 1912. He went to Katounakia on Mount Athos in 1933 and entered a small monastic community. He received the name Ephraim and later became a priest. With the blessing of his elder, he received guidance from Joseph the Hesychast and devoted himself to the Jesus Prayer, worship and the reading of ascetic writings. His received life remembers his counsel to monks and other visitors. He died on February 27, 1998.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
