A life of faith

Ephrem was born Constantine in Trikala and entered the Annunciation Monastery near Nea Makri while still young. He became a monk and priest. The received life describes his capture during an Ottoman attack and prolonged torture when he would not abandon his Christian faith. He is remembered as a monastic martyr.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Ephrem’s remembrance invites reflection on the commitments you hope to keep during a difficult season.
