Saint Epictet of Halmyris
Priest and martyr
Asia Minor and Halmyris, Dobrogea
Feast day: July 8

A life of faith
Epictet was a priest from Asia Minor who taught the young Astion about Christian faith and prepared him for baptism. The two settled at Halmyris in Dobrogea, where they continued their religious life and instruction. Arrested together, they refused to renounce Christ despite torture. The official calendar remembers their prayers in imprisonment and their martyrdom together.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Epictet’s life invites thoughtful teaching and a faith that remains steady when speaking the truth becomes costly.
