A life of faith

Epimachus came from Egypt and spent years in the desert before going to Alexandria during persecution. He was arrested after destroying idols and attempting to kill the governor. In prison he encouraged fellow Christians facing punishment. The calendar remembers his torture and execution.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Epimachus’s encouragement of fellow prisoners invites care for people facing fear and isolation.
